BOLJI ZIVOT 4 , HC/PUNK FANZINE , NOVI SAD (SERBIA) 1989
What can be said, this is a blog where I will post some stuff I really like,so I think you should like it too.I am a metalhead to the heart, but I will put here every kind of stuff I like, not only Metal.I hope you will enjoy it,and let me know if there is anything needed, especially from the ex-Yugoslavia territory. Cheers!
One of my favourite bands with which I begun listening to extreme music. And their mini-LP is one of the first extreme records (not counting Venom and Discharge) I have ever bought.Tom Warrior rejects everything Hellhammer did, telling it is shit.I was very sorry to hear this, because HH brought a new standard in darkness, Venom were Christmas kids-Metal compared to this. Not for the speed, but for the heaviness and the blackness of it all.
I am glad I am putting this ep here, I have this vinyl from 1988, and it is still one of my collection`s favourite.A semi-bootleg ep from one of the all time favourite HC band ever.Very loud and exciting recording of part of a gig from 1982, the "production" is not of the best, but clear enough to make you satisfied. This is an ep you WANT to have.
Saw them this summer at the Grind Your Mind festival in Varazdin, and even it is not the Metal I prefer, this band is an excellent live act. This is their first demo from 2002, and even then they showed that we can count on them.Interesting modern Metal.
Now some interesting material from this relatively young band from Zagreb.I am not into this kind of music, it sounds very interesting and it is a kind of Pagan/Black/Folk Metal, whatever that may mean. All I can say is that it is played very well and produced very well and it would be a pity not to offer it to you and give the guys a wider airplay. So enjoy this one if you like the mentioned style.
Here is the second release of one of the three bands that were the top of the Croatian Metal scene in the first part of the 90s, but also the first of those three who fell apart.Kain were an excellent live band, I had the opportunity to know them in private, all great guys, and there are some rumors that they are active again after more than a decade, but for the moment, those are only rumors.
Hmmm..I am a little suspicious about the date of this one..at least, the date I found for this recording..I am not quite sure that Carnivore played it in 1994, as they split somewhere in 1991-92.I changed the year here in the title, even on the file is written 1994, so you just ignore the date and enjoy some Carnivore live as it was back in the time of the second "true" Carnivore (Steele-Piovanetti-Beateaux) .The recording is not extremely good, it is an audience recording, but as such very fine. For collectors and fans.
Now,this is an ancient request I had from somebody here, a Croatian band that was active in the beginning of the 90s, they were pretty obscure, and all that remained from them is this compilation of demo tracks recorded between 1989 and 1991.Their music is a kind of dark Alternative Rock with Metal influences. The band stopped playing by the end of 1991 when their vocalist Gvido was killed in a war action in Slavonia (occupied part of Croatia).
I don`t know much about this Hard Rock band from Serbia, but they are from the period when Hard Rock in Serbia gave a lot of more or less popular/successful Hard Rock bands.BC are one of the less popular,at least for me.The Hard Rock they play is very similiar to the Griva or Generacija 5 or even Kerber kind.A collectors item anyway! It is totally a help from my contributor Roihlem!Thanx,Ro!
This is a very nice compilation I liked back in 1997 (and still like, of course),Punk HC Ska bands playing a fast and sometimes violent kind of Ska with fascinating skills and very interesting arrangements. There was also the sequel to this compilation, but I preferred this volume, so here it is.And don`t skank that much, man..
Very,VERY good tribute album by this Serbian band.Bathory classics re-played by this seemingly one-man-band, an excellent production and excellent performance. There`s not much to say about this album, except that I am sure that you`re gonna like it a lot (if you liked Bathory,of course).
Let`s start with the Discharge singles/ep`s serie, this one is the first ep of three they released in one year.In my opinion,Discharge is a band that burned so fast that they became from Punk Rockers through Thrashing Hardcore to almost Glam Metal (at least the look) in only six years. We know and love them most from the Why/HNSNSN/Never Again phase, but let`s go from the start (I will post the first demo soon), from the first ep, where they were pure Punk.
Now,here is a band I really liked,I had the opportunity to meet and see them live at the Histeria Party in Pula in 1993.I got two EP`s from them, but let`s start off with their 1992 demo,an excellent collection of SXE Hardcore, very strong, loud and in-your-face.I don`t know what happened to them in the years after, but I think they are still active..Enjoy this hard hitter!
For all those who collected the Atomsko Skloniste discography, this is the album that fills it to the end.I passed all their Yugoslavian,Croatian and American releases, this is the second American release, this time only Bruno Langer and Dragan Guzvan remained of the Croatian part of the band. While Bruno and Dragan were in Florida prepairing the album, the original vocalist Sergio Blazic died in a hospital in Pula. This is an album that definitively closed the work of the original Atomsko Skloniste.Again,no new songs, just re-arrangements of old stuff.
Can you imagine a more Metal cover as this one?You probably can,but let me explain you why I told that.I want you to understand how METAL this cd is.What we have here is a band that plays great Heavy Metal, and they do it very well! This band is from Arizona, and has a member that lives a period in Serbia and the other in the US.As I was told,he does all the music for this band, and that means he is a great talent.Well, enjoy this recording, and you surely will if you like uncompromising Metal.Oh,yeah, and let`s not forget:Darko is the contributor!Thanx!
..and this is the second excellent album from 1984,the album from one of the strongest band of the 80s coming from the beautiful city of Sarajevo.ZP (translated it is No Smoking) when the war started, they escaped in Croatia and Serbia, and the band splitted in two equally ultrabad sequels, the Serbian ZP (with the vocalist and the symbol of the first band,Nele Karajlic) and the Croatian ZP (with the guitarist and soul of the first band,Sejo Sexton).I could talk for hours about the ZP of the 80s,but instead,I give you this great and strange album, less Poppy than Bajaga`s and more to the ground and more instrumentalistically sophisticated. After the Punk outburst of Anarhija All Over Bascarsija, the band touches almost every corner of New Wave and rock music. One sad thing is that the title of the album (as well as the intro) are taken from a TV serie called "Valter defends Sarajevo" in which Sarajevo was shown as a symbol of never giving up..
These days I gave an ear to two albums from the good old Yugoslavian Rock scene, and accidentally both were from 1984,a very good year for the ex-Yu Rock discography. This one is the first album from Momcilo Bajagic-Bajaga,at the time still the guitarist of Riblja Corba.Everyone expected some Hard Rock album like the RC`s,but Bajaga made a collection of funny easy-listening Poppy New-Wave songs. It is a collection of songs that Bajaga first offered to RC,but the leader Bora Djordjevic refused them all,and that was also one of the reasons Bajaga left RC soon after.A nice album, bringing me some nice memories, and almost a must for all of you collectors of Yu-Rock records.
