What can be said, this is a blog where I will post some stuff I really like,so I think you should like it too.I am a metalhead to the heart, but I will put here every kind of stuff I like, not only Metal.I hope you will enjoy it,and let me know if there is anything needed, especially from the ex-Yugoslavia territory.
Cheers!
Now, this band comes from Serbia, and even I am not a fan of My Dying Bride, I think they re-interpreted the MDB style perfectly, and it sounds very very good. Actually, if you ask me (and you don`t, but I will say it anyway) I will rather take a listen to TBE..
Finally it is out. This album means a lot to me, because it brings my memory to a guy I knew until the beginning of this year, until he left this planet forever.Post Mortem are a cult band from the 80s, and just as they planned a reunion, the vocalist John McCarthy died on January 28th this year, and it seemingly stopped the reunion.
JOHN McCARTHY , R.I.P. MY FRIEND
As the musical part of the new album was over, the guitarist John Alexander decided to finish it as a tribute to Macca (McCarthy). The vocals were done by SIGH`s vocalist Mirai Kawashima, and Alexander decided to include on the album some alternate versions of some songs with other vocalists, guys who were friends of the Macca, so as bonus tracks are included 5 songs sung by other vocalists such as Seth from Anal Cunt and Mike from Cianide. And I am proud to say that I gave my tribute too, I sung the McCarthy`s song "A Happy Life", it is no.15 on this cd.The cd is available through the myspace page of the band, or at www.tabootapes.com . Order it.

Well, by request and by my wish too, here is the Soter`s first demo. This demo is played by two regular visitors of this blog Mika (contributor too!) and Axegrinder. So, as for the first post, what we have here is a very raw recording of some dark Doom Metal atmospheres here, not the usual "I am stuffed with weed as a monkey" stuff. The live-rehearsal room recording just amplifies the feel.Stuff to have for collectors of Croatian Metal. And for the Croatian-speaking fans, here is also a radio interview done with the band!!A must.
Tracks: 01.First ones (Heller cover) 02.Return of messiah 03.When the gods turn their backs 04.unknown title + Soter Radio-Interview
Well, finally you got the chance to hear another Croatian Doom Metal band, Soter from Pozega. The band contained members from Amen and played for few years in the 90s.This recording comes from 1994, it is a rehearsal demo, and the Doom played here is slow, depressive and heavy as a real Doom Metal have to be.There will be more stuff from Soter, and for that people send a thank you to Mika from Hope/Amen.Stuff you must have!!
Tracks: 01.Neither from the sky, neither from the depth 02.Time of cross from dust 03.Prisoner of suffering
This is one of the most emotive albums I have ever heard.I probably skipped a lot of My Dying Bride and similiar stuff, because I found it too depressive. But Candlemass, and especially with this album, they got me the moment I heard this guitar sound, this beautiful voice of Messiah Marcolin (which voice I knew from the pre-Candlemass band Mercy) and the depth and power of their songs at the same time.I never did recommend specific songs from albums, because I think an album is a whole story, and songs are only pieces. But this time,I invite you to listen to 01.the power and the heaviness and the melody of Bewitched + 02.The sadness and the lyrics of Samarithan + 03.The heaviness of At the gallows end.Of course, every song has great songwriting and really beautiful lyrics..oh,come on,do you need anything more?? PS:Please watch the video of Bewitched,it is soooooooooooooooo Metal!!
..and there`s more:I decided to put here the lyrics of SAMARITHAN.Too beautiful.
SAMARITHAN Lyrics by Leif Edling
One day I saw a man Dressed in rags, with a staff in his hand Begging for a penny to survive
How poor a man can be I gave him hospitality A room, a bed and lots of food to eat
Still I hear his last few words "I can never return what you've done But heaven will remember and repay"
Fifty years had gone since I saw him I was dying and I'd soon be dead Three angels stood in front of my bed
The first one she said to me, don't be afraid I'll give you immortality and grace for your soul The second had eyes of gold, gave me my wings The third gave all wisdom an angel could give .. to me
I joined with my destiny I knew I was born again, an angel to be A vision beyond my dreams, called me by name So in devotion I spread my wings, to heaven I had came .. to stay
Tracks:
01.Gothic stone+Well of souls
02.Codex gigas 03.At the gallows end 04.Samarithan 05.Marche funebre 06.Dark are the veils of death 07.Mourner`s lament 08.Bewitched 09.Black candles
For fans of Doom Metal, here is the best band in Croatia, pretty much known and succesful outside our borders. This one is a perfect soundboard recording of a gig played in my lovely Pula in the summer 2002.,when I still lived there (I left Pula in October that year).I was not at that gig,but I am very glad that I found this recording on the net.The band is,of course, great and this is a very enjoyable live recording.
Tracks: 01.Miles of worn out days+Amber star 02.Fire 03.Hurt 04.Your divinity 05.Passage back to life 06.In vain 07.Ready to cry 08.Free 09.The planets 10.Every me,every you (Placebo cover)
I found this demo in a drawer,so I told myself Maybe somebody searches for this one..man,it is not my cup of tea..some Doom Metal, but for my opinion, played (or produced?) very weak, miles away from the strenght of ie.Ashes You Leave. But,anyway, for the ones collecting Metal bands from the ex-Yugoslavia territory, this one is something you must have.
Tracks; 01.In the sun 02.She (Nude female figure) 03.Nativity
